All area residents will have the opportunity to enjoy live opera in Jefferson Wednesday, April 24.
Des Moines Metro Opera’s OPERA Iowa will present “Beauty and the Beast” by Andre Gretry, adapted by Joshua Borths, at 7:30 pm in the Greene County High School auditorium. The entire community is invited. There is no admission charge.
Opera Iowa will spend the full day in Jefferson. That morning, students in grades 2-4 will see a performance of “Sid, The Serpent who Wanted to Sing” at the middle school auditorium. The operetta, by Malcolm Fox, tells of a serpent in a circus who wants to do more than slither in and out of a basket – he wants to sing.
The seven-member troupe will present a master class for choral music students Wednesday afternoon at the high school.
OPERA Iowa has visited rural schools, city classrooms, community centers, concert halls and gymnasiums for 35 years, offering young people and adults a quality arts experience while building opera audiences for the future.
